Wilderness First Responder (WFR) is the definitive course in medical training for outdoor educators, guides, SAR team members, and others who work or play in remote areas. The curriculum is comprehensive and practical, including all of the essential principles and skills required to assess and manage medical problems in isolated and extreme environments. The 5-day format is for individuals and sponsors with less time available for on-site training and requires 25 hours of pre-course preparation.
Students must register at least 2 weeks before the course date. All students must complete all pre-course work prior to arrival on course.
The course is in English. 30 min from downtown Ottawa. Stay on-site in comfortable lodging for $29/night with kitchen, WIFI. Enjoy surrounding wilderness. 5 mins from the awesome town of Wakefield.
The course site is a cozy retreat centre on 75 acres of wilderness—bordering Gatineau Park! You’ll be minutes from the awesome riverside village of Wakefield. Option A – Stay on-site in a comfortable shared lodging for 29 CAD/night. Enjoy the fully equipped kitchen, spacious bedrooms, WIFI, library, fireplace, cozy common areas. Option B – Commute from Ottawa/Gatineau (30 minutes) Option C – Book a private room at a hotel or B&B in the village of Wakefield, 7km/4.5miles from the course location. Pickup & Drop-off: You can get picked-up and dropped-off at the Ottawa airport, train, or bus station or anywhere downtown for $29 CAD each way. Pick-ups are before 6pm the day before your course. Drop-offs are the evening that your course ends. FOOD Bring groceries to prepare your own meals in the fully equipped kitchen. Boreal River supplies coffee and tea. There are grocery stores, restaurants, cafés, and bakeries a short drive away in Wakefield.
